Michelin XTY2

Reinforced trailer casing. Built for demanding trailer positions, the Michelin XTY2 uses a high-strength steel-belted radial casing with robust bead bundles and a thick chafer to resist rim slip, heat build-up and impact damage from kerbs and yard manoeuvres. The optimised belt angles and generous undertread gauge stabilise the footprint to manage multi-axle lateral scrub, reducing shoulder tearing and belt-edge stress that can lead to separations. A low-permeability innerliner helps maintain inflation pressure for consistent load-carrying and reduced heat generation, protecting the casing for multiple lives and maximising cost per kilometre.

Cut-and-chip resistant compound. The XTY2’s tread utilises a high-abrasion, cut- and chip-resistant compound engineered with a balanced carbon black structure and silica dispersion to deliver high tear strength without sacrificing heat resistance. Elevated crosslink density and optimised polymer chain architecture limit crack propagation under sharp aggregate and chipseal, while controlled hysteresis minimises energy loss at highway speeds. The result is excellent tread integrity on and off sealed surfaces, longer service life in quarry exits and forestry approaches, and stable rolling temperatures under heavy trailer loads.

Optimised tread geometry. A wide, deep tread with robust ribs and interlocking block elements provides uniform load distribution and resists heel-and-toe wear in tight turning trailers. The groove architecture discourages stone drilling with tapered bases and promotes efficient water evacuation for confident braking on wet roads. High-rigidity shoulders control shear deformation during docking and roundabout manoeuvres, reducing irregular wear patterns and preserving a flat, square footprint for predictable tracking and lower rolling resistance over the tyre’s life.

Sidewall protection ribs. The XTY2 features reinforced sidewall gauges with protective buttress ribs and a rim flange shield to buffer against kerbing and trailer swing impacts. This physical barrier disperses contact stresses away from the carcass cords and bead area, limiting scuff damage that can expose ply ends or initiate ozone cracking. By controlling sidewall flexion and abrasion in urban distribution and yard work, the design helps maintain casing integrity, supports consistent retreadability, and reduces unplanned downtime from sidewall injuries.

Regroove and retread ready. Engineered for multiple lives, the Michelin XTY2 incorporates regroovable tread with clearly defined groove bases and sufficient undertread rubber to safely restore pattern depth when worn, extending first-life mileage. The durable Michelin casing is designed to accept Remix retreads, with bead and belt construction that maintains geometry through cure cycles. This lifecycle approach reduces total cost of ownership, improves fleet sustainability metrics, and ensures consistent performance across new, regrooved and retreaded stages without compromising load index or compliance.
