BFGoodrich ST270

Buy the tyre—built to perform—with tough, reliable construction, confident wet and dry grip, even wear and long mileage at great value.

Five-rib steer pattern. The BFGoodrich ST270 employs a robust five-rib steer pattern with a solid centre rib that stabilises the contact patch at motorway speeds, improving on-centre tracking and reducing driver correction. Interlocked intermediate ribs distribute shear stress evenly and suppress heel-and-toe wear, while variable pitch sequencing helps control pattern noise for quieter linehaul work. The footprint is optimised to maintain uniform contact pressure across the width under high steer-axle loads, extending tread life and keeping the tyre square for precise steering over long regional hauls. Deep, full-depth siping in the ribs maintains wet-edge density as the tyre wears, preserving braking and lateral grip throughout the casing’s first life.

Decoupling shoulder groove. A continuous decoupling groove isolates the outer shoulder rib from the circumferential ribs, letting the shoulder flex and dissipate heat during tight manoeuvres and kerbing events common in urban delivery. This architecture mitigates river wear and shoulder tearing by reducing localised strain energy, so the tread wears flat instead of scalping on the outer ribs. By lowering shoulder temperature and strain at the belt edge, the design also helps protect the ply turn-ups and belt package from fatigue, supporting longer first-life mileage and improving the casing’s suitability for retread.

Cap-base tread compound. The ST270 utilises a dual-layer cap–base tread with a high-traction, abrasion-resistant cap compound over a low-hysteresis base. The cap resin system and polymer blend deliver strong wet traction and chip resistance, while the base compound acts as a thermal sink, reducing heat flow into the belt edge and bead area under sustained highway loads. Lower hysteresis translates to reduced rolling resistance for improved fuel economy, without sacrificing cut/tear resistance required in regional service. The cap is formulated to resist tread squirm, helping keep wear even, and the base enhances casing longevity, enabling multiple retread cycles and lowering cost per kilometre.

Reinforced kerb-guard sidewall. A thickened sidewall gauge with an integrated kerb-guard rib shields the ST270 from scuffing and abrasive kerb contact in stop–start metro routes, reducing the incidence of sidewall cord exposure. Additional chafer reinforcement and a robust rim-flange protector improve bead seat integrity and guard against rim damage during docking or tight kerb approaches. The stiffer sidewall profile improves lateral stability under high CG loads, aiding precise steering response while keeping heat build-up in the sidewall shoulder under control for better casing durability.

Retread-ready casing architecture. Engineered with a high-tensile steel belt package, a durable nylon cap ply, and a heavy-duty bead bundle with a long apex, the BFGoodrich ST270 casing is built to accept multiple retreads while holding its geometry. The innerliner compound delivers superior air retention to minimise running under-inflation, and the moulded crown profile produces a stable, square contact patch that resists cupping and river wear—ideal for steer/all-position service. Stone-drilling inhibitors in the main grooves reduce penetrations that could compromise the belts, preserving the integrity required for quality retreads. The net result is a casing designed for high uptime and a lower total life-cycle cost for fleets operating regional and urban routes.
