Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy

Buy the tyre, engineered for mixed-service efficiency with reduced fuel use, long tread life, confident traction and a robust, retreadable casing to lower your running costs.

Low rolling resistance compound. Engineered with a low-hysteresis tread cap over an energy-efficient under-tread, the Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy reduces rolling losses at the contact patch, lowering fuel consumption without compromising durability on coarse chipseal. Advanced polymer–silica coupling optimises filler dispersion to limit heat build-up, keeping casing temperatures stable under sustained highway speeds and frequent stop–start regional work. The result is tangible litre-per-100 km savings for fleets, reduced CO2 output, and slower thermal ageing of the rubber matrix for longer tread life. Lower hysteresis also stabilises wear patterns, preserving traction as the tyre progresses through its life.

Mixed-service tread architecture. A robust, deep tread with staggered shoulder elements and interlocking central blocks allows the Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy to bridge sealed and unsealed applications, resisting tearing and chunking on gravel while remaining quiet and stable on motorway runs. Wide, zig-zag longitudinal grooves provide efficient water evacuation and self-cleaning, preventing mud and stones from packing the tread in quarry, farm or forestry access. Tie-bars and chamfered block edges reduce shear at the block base, limiting irregular wear under frequent manoeuvres and roundabout scrub common on NZ routes. This geometry delivers consistent grip and predictable handling across varied surfaces, maximising uptime and tyre life.

Reinforced high-tensile casing. Built around a high-tensile steel carcass with a robust belt package and reinforced bead zone, the Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy maintains footprint stability under heavy axle loads and repeated curb contacts typical of distribution work. The casing architecture limits cord strain and ply-end stress concentrations, reducing the risk of belt edge separations and improving resistance to impact shocks on rough surfaces. Enhanced heat dissipation through the body ply mitigates flex-fatigue, keeping the crown and shoulder temperatures in the optimal range across long duty cycles. This structural integrity supports multiple retread lives, lowering cost per kilometre over the tyre’s service horizon.

Stone ejector groove design. Integrated stone-ejector ribs at the base of the main grooves disrupt stone retention and drill-down, a primary cause of belt perforations and corrosion in mixed-service fleets. By promoting continual ejection of chipseal aggregate and quarry fines, the Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy protects the crown package from puncture pathways, preserving air retention and casing health. Cleaner grooves also maintain water flow capacity for wet-braking performance as the tread wears. The net effect is fewer unplanned removals, higher casing reuse rates, and better lifecycle economics.

Optimised contact patch geometry. A carefully tuned crown radius and pressure distribution deliver an even, rectangular footprint that minimises shoulder loading and combats common irregular wear modes such as heel-and-toe and river wear. The Michelin XJE4 Mix Energy maintains a stable contact pressure map under varying loads and inflation pressures, improving straight-line stability and braking consistency in wet and dry conditions. Micro-siping within the block faces increases edge density for low-speed traction while keeping block stiffness high enough to resist scrub. Even wear extends usable tread depth over more kilometres, directly reducing replacement frequency and total operating cost.
