Self-cleaning tread design. Reinforced casing construction. Built on a heavy-duty carcass with multiple high-tensile cord plies, robust chafer reinforcement and a thick gauge under-tread, the Michelin XL is engineered to absorb impacts and resist bruising in harsh terrain. A stiff bead apex and reinforced sidewall zones distribute stresses more evenly, lowering heat build-up under load and at sustained convoy speeds. A specialised off-road rubber compound, formulated with high-dispersed carbon black and cut-resistant elastomers, equips the Michelin XL to withstand sharp aggregate, forestry slash and rocky tracks. Enhanced tear strength and abrasion resistance limit chunking and tread laceration, while a robust base layer shields the casing from penetration. This chemistry reduces rapid surface degradation on abrasive substrates, stabilises tread block geometry for consistent grip, and extends usable tread life between rotations or replacements—delivering dependable service and lower downtime in demanding applications.

Optimised on-road stability. While off-road focused, the Michelin XL integrates block tie-bars and a balanced tread pitch sequence to control vibration and minimise tread squirm on sealed roads. The stable centre elements support straight-line tracking and predictable braking, and the carcass stiffness is tuned to manage heat generation at typical highway speeds within the tyre’s rating.
