Michelin XML

Shop the , a high-mobility off-road tyre engineered for extreme terrain with aggressive, self-cleaning tread for superior traction, rugged puncture-resistant durability, and confident performance under heavy loads.

Radial casing architecture. The Michelin XML uses a robust radial ply architecture with a reinforced crown package to deliver a stable, elongated contact patch under dynamic load, which reduces localised shear stresses and heat build-up when operating at low inflation pressures or at road speeds. This optimises lateral stiffness for predictable steering response on sealed surfaces while maintaining high vertical compliance off-road, improving traction and ride quality over corrugations, roots and rock ledges. The design minimises cyclic strain in the sidewall, enhancing fatigue life of the casing and protecting the bead area under high torque and repeated deflection, which translates into dependable service life and lower whole-of-life cost for mixed-use fleets.

Aggressive self-cleaning tread. A non-directional, high-void lug geometry with deep inter-lug channels and open shoulders actively sheds mud, clay and sand to prevent packing, maintaining a high effective edge density and consistent tractive coefficient across cohesive and non-cohesive soils. Angled transverse elements create a strong mechanical keying action, while ejector features help dislodge stones to protect the crown. The tread’s void distribution balances fore–aft bite with lateral stability, reducing slip-induced heat and improving efficiency when climbing, side-hilling or traversing riverbeds. This yields confident mobility in New Zealand’s variable terrain, from soft paddocks to pumice and shingle.

CTIS-optimised bead geometry. Engineered for seamless integration with Central Tyre Inflation Systems, the Michelin XML features robust bead bundles, thick chafers and an airtight inner liner to maintain a reliable rim seal during rapid pressure changes and sustained low-pressure operation. The bead seat contour and reinforcement layout resist unseating under impact and side load, enabling safe operation at very low kPa for flotation without compromising rim retention. This compatibility allows operators to optimise contact pressure in real time for sand, peat or hardpack, reducing ground disturbance, improving traction, and shortening transition times between on-road and off-road segments.

Cut and chip-resistant compound. A high-tear, cut-resistant tread compound with optimised carbon black structure and curated polymer blend resists chunking and crack propagation when exposed to sharp aggregate, forestry slash and volcanic rock common in NZ conditions. Elevated tear energy and robust undertread gauges protect the crown and belt package from penetrations, while sidewall rubber with enhanced abrasion resistance helps deflect scuffs and snags. Lower hysteresis in key layers reduces heat generation during prolonged off-road torque cycles, preserving compound integrity and extending tread life, which supports predictable wear and casing retreadability for cost-effective asset management.

High-flotation footprint design. A wide section profile and compliant sidewall enable the Michelin XML to generate a large, evenly loaded footprint at reduced inflation pressures, lowering ground contact pressure to help vehicles float over sand, peat and soft pasture instead of digging in. The elongated contact patch increases longitudinal traction and reduces rutting, while controlled sidewall deflection keeps the footprint stable under torque and camber, improving directional control on cambers and ruts. When paired with CTIS, operators can fine-tune footprint length and pressure to match payload and substrate, delivering maximum mobility with minimal soil damage.
